2022-04-02 00:36:14 Our journey in Californian's Counties brings us in Nevada County.

Named a decade before the state directly to its east, Nevada County is part of California’s historic Gold Country. Visitors today can relive another era on the historic Nevada County Railroad, experience fresh powder at Sugar Bowl Resort, or discover the region’s reemerging wine culture.

Well known also for Rivers meadows forests
and wild flowers

Enjoy and #salutesempresalute

2022-03-29 22:11:44 Today we go to El Dorado County

Enjoy and #salutesempresalute

El Dorado sits at the north end of California’s famed Mother Lode, the 120-mile gold vein discovered in the late 1840’s which became the site of the Gold Rush. Today, the region is better known for its visitor attractions, agriculture, and old-vine Zinfandel.

About 50 grape varietals
Old Zifandel vines
Vineyards above 600 mt

2022-03-28 23:40:59 The third part of our trip in California Wine Area, in Sierra Foothills.
We go in Calaveras County.

Mark Twain gave Calaveras County its claim to fame with his bestselling story “The Jumping Frog of Calaveras County.” Nestled in the foothills of the Sierra Nevada Mountains, this famous Gold Rush location still maintains its 19th-century charm, including Murphy’s Historic Hotel, in operation since 1856. Twain was just one of its famous guests.

In this area there are famous big trees, a grove of giant sequoias.

Mainly red grapes for rich wines like Syrah, Merlot, Cabernet Sauvignon.

Enjoy!!!

2022-03-28 14:07:35 Second part of my trip in Califonian wine regions.
We discover each County in Sierra Foohills area.
We start with Amador County. Amador is old vine country; nearly 600 acres of the county’s vines are at least 60 years old, while several vineyards date to the 19th century. Nestled in the heart of Gold Country, this region is known for its rich history and rich reds. First planted around mid 1800s. Old vine Zinfandel and Barbera. Also Sangiovese, Syrah and Viognier. #californianwine #zifandel #barbera #sangiovese #syrah #viogner

2022-03-28 14:07:13 We go to #california

The Sierra Foothills wine region in California is one of the largest AVAs in the entire United States. It covers 1.05 million hectares from Mariposa County in the south to Yuba County in the north. The warm, high-altitude terroir here is well suited to the production of big, ripe, red wines made from Zinfandel, Syrah and Italian varieties such as Barbera.
The region lies along the north-western foothills of the Sierra Nevada mountain range that separates California from the state of Nevada in the east. Vineyards run usually at altitudes ranging from 300–900m above sea level.
The discovery of gold near Sutter Mill in El Dorado County in 1848 led to the California Gold Rush, when a huge influx of settlers arrived in the state in search of fortune. Many were from southern Europe, and vineyards were quickly established by enterprising individuals to supply them with wine.
By the 1860s, the Sierra Foothills wine industry was booming. This dropped off in the depression that followed the end of the Gold Rush, and the beginning of Prohibition in 1920 killed off whatever was left.
Happily vignerons exploring the viticultural potential of the Sierra Foothills in the 1970s were rewarded with the discovery of many old vines producing extremely low yields of high-quality Zinfandel grapes. The 140-year-old Grandpere vineyard in California Shenandoah Valley is said to be the oldest still in production in the state.
This vast region has a huge array of terroirs. The rocky soils vary, with low fertility commonplace – making grape growing difficult but producing high-quality wines. The vines are forced to dig their roots deep into the ground to find water and nutrients, and the end result is often small yields of grapes with intense, concentrated flavors.
Warm, sunny days in the inland AVA are followed by much cooler nights as a result of alpine winds that blow down the slopes of the Sierra Nevada mountains in the evenings.

Have you ever tried wines frome this AVA?
If you want leave you comments.
