The Mahābhārata sums up Sanātana Dharma (Hinduism) as:–

adrohaḥ sarvabhūteṣu karmaṇā manasā girā |

anugrahaśca dānaṃ ca stāṃ dharma sanātanaḥ ||

The Eternal Duty (Sanātana Dharma) towards all creatures is the absence of malevolence towards them in thought, deed or word, and to practice compassion and generosity towards them. (MB Vana Parva 297;35)

2021-07-27 21:34:24How was the Mahabharata written?

The Mahabharata is the longest epic poem ever written in the world, with 200,000 individual verses in 18 chapters.

The Mahabharata is ten times lengthier than Iliad and Odyssey combined. The Bhagavad Gita appears in the middle of Mahabharata. This poem is actually tremendously vast volume, and no human would be capable to write that.

Narada insisted that the sage Veda Vyasa, who has written many wonderful books, should also write the Mahabharata epic to help the common man to understand the subtle truths of the universe.

So, sage Vyasa sought the help of Ganesha to write down what he is saying. Ganesha on his part said that the moment Vyasa will stop reciting he will stop writing forever. Veda Vyasa agreed Ganesha's terms, provided he fully understand the meaning of everything he is saying before he write.

Both agreed and wrote the great epic Mahabharata.

It is said that the first version of the Ramayana was written by Hanuman, who engraved it on rocks with his nails. Seeing the version composed by Hanuman, Valmiki became sad and disappointed, because his version was nothing compared to the one composed by the legendary Vanara and his effort to write it was all wasted.

Seeing the Maharishi sad and disappointed, Hanuman took the rocks where he engraved his version of Ramayana and threw them into the ocean. Since then the Ramayana composed by Hanuman is lost forever.

The whole creation has evolved out of you. O Shive! You are the Mother of the universe. O Bhadre! From Mahat-Tattva till the atoms, the subtle-gross, the mobile-immobile-universe was created by you. The universe is under your supreme control and you are the primordial. All forms of knowledge and we all are created from you.

~ MahAnirvAna Tantram 4.10-12.

2021-07-11 19:11:50 Dasa Mahavidya - The 10 aspects of Adi Parashakti

In Tantra, the worship of Devi or Shakti is called Vidya (lit. Knowledge - Wisdom). Among the countless tantric practices, the cult of the ten major Shakti is called Dasa Mahavidya. These ten aspects of Shakti are the personification of the whole creation.

The Mahavidyas are considered Tantric in nature and are usually identified as:
Kali: The ultimate form of Brahman, "Devourer of Time".
Tara: The Goddess as Guide and Protector, or Who Saves. Who offers the ultimate knowledge which gives salvation (also known as Neel Saraswati).
Shodashi or Lalita Tripurasundari: The Goddess Who is "Beautiful in the Three Worlds"; the "Tantric Parvati" or the "Moksha Mukta".
Bhuvaneshvari: The Goddess as World Mother, or whose body is the cosmos.
Bhairavi: The Fierce Goddess.
Chinnamasta: The self-decapitated Goddess.
Dhumavati: The Widow Goddess, or the Goddess of death.
Bagalamukhi: The Goddess who paralyzes enemies.
Matangi: The Prime Minister of Lalita; the "Tantric Saraswati".
Kamala: The Lotus Goddess; the "Tantric Lakshmi".
History of the origins of the Ten Mahavidyas

Sati, the consort of Shiva was the daughter of Daksha Prajapati, a descendant of Brahma. Sati had married Shiva against the wishes of his father who considered him low-ranking and not civilized. Daksha then performed a great Yajña with the sole purpose of insulting Shiva, invited all the gods and goddesses, except her son-in-law, Sadashiva.

Sati learned of the Yajña of his father Daksha from Narada Muni. He asked permission to Shiva to attend the Yajña, saying that a daughter did not need an invitation from her father. Shiva said that Daksha was trying to insult him, and so even if Sati was present in the Yajña, the fruit of the sacrifice would not have been a good omen. So he ordered Sati not to go to the Yajña.

Sati was furious and annoyed by this refusal and showed Shiva her form of Adi Parashakti, the Divine Mother. The oceans raged, the mountains trembled and the atmosphere filled with the wonder of its shape.

Shiva began to tremble and tried to escape. But in every direction he tried to escape, the Divine Mother stopped him. The Divine Mother had multiplied in ten different forms, guarding each of the ten directions by blocking every escape route to Shiva.

After seeing so powerful Shaktis around him, Shiva asked, "Who are you? Where is my Sati? " The answer was: "I am your Sati, the furious forms all around you are my ten different incarnations, do not be afraid of them. At this point, Shiva had no other way but to allow Sati to go and see the Yajña.

Shocking secrets of Goddess Kali

In spite of her seemingly terrible form, Kali Ma is often considered the kindest and most loving of all the Hindu goddesses, as she is regarded by her devotees as the Mother of the whole Universe.

And because of her terrible form, she is also often seen as a great protector.

When the Bengali saint Ramakrishna once asked a devotee why one would prefer to worship Mother over him, this devotee rhetorically replied, "Maharaj, when they are in trouble your devotees come running to you.

But, where do you run when you are in trouble?"

According to Ramakrishna, darkness is the Ultimate Mother, or Kali: My Mother is the principle of consciousness. She is Akhanda Satchidananda; indivisible Reality, Awareness, and Bliss. The night sky between the stars is perfectly black.

The waters of the ocean depths are the same; The infinite is always mysteriously dark. This inebriating darkness is my beloved Kali. -Sri Ramakrishna
