‘Live at the Fes Festival of World Sacred Music’ is now available worldwide. With new compositions – ‘Ilahana’, ‘Madad’, and ‘Mawlana’ – and brand new arrangements of existing pieces, this album delivers my most authentically traditional and sophisticated performance to date. Early in my career I disliked live performances due to the element of pop celebrity status that came with them. Now as I’ve turned to traditional music, I’ve come to value and love live concerts because the intimacy with an audience and the improvisational aspect between musicians brings everyone fully into a shared moment of artistic creation and reception.

The concert in Fes and this subsequent album have been an opportunity to honour the legacy of artistic traditions of Andalusia, the Middle East, and Turkey. I want to thank the incredibly talented musicians who accompanied me and the crew in Fes, without whom none of this could have come about, and my own team who worked tirelessly to make this album a reality. Thanks also go to the @fesfestival organisers who invited me to perform there for the second time, the first time being 2009.
