Mercedes?
In Messico, a causa della minore densità dell’aria a 2,2 km sul livello del mare, c’è meno fluido da comprimere per il turbo. In passato la Mercedes ha sofferto questo tipo di condizioni perché non poteva far funzionare la sua turbina più velocemente, compensando la minore densità dell’aria. Honda, dotata di un elemento girante più voluminoso, non andava in affanno.
A detta di Toto Wolff, il
turbocompressore è stato quindi adattato al meglio per rispondere in ogni situazione altimetrica. Cosa che potrebbe giovare alle performance della W12 anche in Brasile, laddove la quota è ancora una volta alta.
In Mexico, because of the lower air density at 2.2km above sea level, there is less fluid for the turbo to compress. In the past, Mercedes has suffered from these kinds of conditions because it could not make its turbine work faster, compensating for the lower air density. Honda, equipped with a more voluminous impeller element, did not struggle.
According to Toto Wolff, the turbocharger was therefore best adapted to respond in every altitude situation. That could also benefit the W12's performance in Brazil, where the altitude is once again high.
