Over 1500 land owners on the West Coast have been issued similar notices.
A majority, white, rural sparsely populated region, is now subject to forced land acquisition.
Of note is the complete disregard for the people of this region by all past (and present) governments.
The West Coast ratepayers previous rejection of the initial proposal of a joint provincial council, largely to stop centralised push-through planning such as this.
The complete lack of historic significance to Maori that this region has in reality.
The name of this council organization illustrates this further, as the translation is essentially, "the place of greenstone/jade", referencing seasonal procurement of said resource. Permanent settlement was not significant, and the true, undeniable foundation of the region there after is European by rights.
But this is just one of many points of contention, and as can be seen, if it's not one contrived reason, it's another.
There has been no consultation to land owners whatsoever.
